The panel
of judges admired Scotty and Kathy's passion for cask beer and
congratulated the couple for making Ye Olde Mitre a real ale haven. When
they took over the managed pub in 2004 it served only two ales. Now,
there are three permanent ales and four to five guest ales always on
offer. The Mitre also hosts a mild ale festival and last May stocked 24
different brews for customers to savour. At Christmas, special festive
brews from small and regional brewers are on offer. The judges were also
very impressed with the pub's cask beer sales that account for 65% of
turnover.
Dan Robinson, Regional Operations Director (London),
adds his congratulations: "This is a fantastic achievement and well
deserved recognition for Scotty and Kathy's commitment to providing an
outstanding pint to their customers. For many years they have won
numerous awards for the quality of their beer and last night's award
seals their position as the best cask beer pub in the country."
The event, held at the London Hilton, Park Lane,
showcased finalists from our Managed and Leased estates, nominated in a
number of categories.
